a color story: blue sunset?
decompression to blue
It was quite the night. A BBQ gathering for a friend work departure to Singapore and an early birthday for my brother. Without a budget consideration, we grabbed ribs, steak, shrimp, peppers, mushroom, corn from the grocery store and grilled them on a charcoal grill. Surf and Turf with more turf while grilling by a turf. It was quite the meal and worth every penny, especially for the occasion.
Like an AYCE experience, getting up and walking off th
meat sweats was something to look forward to. The "gains" had to go somewhere. The four of us decided to walk around the neighborhood. The sky lost its red orange hue which signaled the end of day. All that remained were the blues in the sky. I didn't know the sky could end up like that so late into the day.
I never noticed the last shades of the day.
The sky suggested a notion to decompress. It helped that we were walking and had intentions to settle after a big meal. But, I felt no urgency to end the day. The warm blue, instead, helped decompress from a long day of errands, work, and the miscellaneous.
The group wanted to travel within familiar territory. We walked into a trail where it led to a pond. The trail continued to circle the pond. No bugs, no irritations, no other pedestrians. We practiced the art of walking.
Everyone had their turn to talk to each other. Small talk didn't feel like small talk. Catching up had no purpose; we were past that. Whatever was on our minds we said. Whatever stresses that we had, it disappeared for the time being.
Blue. Turned to Dark Blue. Then, pitch black. The night arrived. It was time to get back home. The decompression had to end somewhere. One last time to appreciate the outdoors. Breathe in. Breathe out. Deep breathe in. Deep breathe out. The air "quality" felt crisp and refreshed. We went back in and back to the screens.
A different blue light hit our eyes. The lab top screens took over as we reminisce through a computer game that we played in college. A different blue light, a different type of decompression. We played three LAN games and we called it a night.
Could the labtop's blue light derive from our ancestral interaction with the blue night time sky? It was a stretch. But, the impressions felt familiar as we decompress in the presence of the blue light. As we recalled about the BBQ night, we remembered it as two events. BBQ and LAN game. How come we didn't think about the walk? Was it something taken for granted? Did it feel like a warm up to the second event? Was a pause, not considered an event?
The blue sky doesn't need to market itself as a place for decompression. The blue sky was the blue sky; it was an aesthetic void.
The sun was bright today and the sky was a light blue. Not the same shade from the night before. But, the moment after breakfast, I paused and sat on a chair. Looking up at the sky. It was time to decompress. Let the foods do its thing. Let the personalities deflate. Let the responsibilities slide for the being. I have made a quick reminder to look down after a minute. No one wants to be in La La Land forever.
